Simple & Effective Golden Text

The Bevel and Emboss layer style has gotten a pretty bad name for itself over the past few years, mainly because of the way new Photoshop users use it so strongly. Some people will say there is no use for the Bevel and Emboss layer style, but I see it everywhere these days, especially out in shops on product labels, etc.
In this Photoshop tutorial you’ll learn how to make some simple but effective gold text with just a few layer styles, but the main effect comes from Bevel and Emboss.

1.
Firstly create a new document. I used a small size of 400 x 140 pixels with default Resolution/DPI. After creating your document you can add in a nice, suitable background. I used a #2a292a to #0d0d0c gradient.
I then blended in a pixel pattern into the background. The pixel pattern is free from SquidFingers.

2.
Using the Horizontal Type Tool (The icon is a T) write out your text, it will probably be best you use a script type of font.

The font used above is Georgia, Bold, Italic, #be9112.
After writing out your text in a yellowish color, go into the Blending Options for your text layer and apply the following layer styles/settings:
If you used all the correct settings you should now have a text-effect like this:

3.
You can finish up by doing a few effects such as a Brightness/Contrast layer or anything else really.

This gold effect is brilliant! But i found the instructions slightly hard to understand, as when i applied a gradient overlay, my writing turned black and white, so i think that should of been told in this tutorial, but otherwise it’s brill!
