Simple Burnt-in Text Effect

In this tutorial I’ll be teaching you how to make some simple, yet very nice looking burnt text.

1.
First create a new document for your text, then add in a background that will suit the effect. I used this texture that I found on DeviantART.

2.
Reset your colors to Black & White by pressing D then write out your text.

It’s best you use a large font/large font size.
Now change the layer mode for the text layer to Soft Light and lower the fill to about 20%.

You should be left with nearly invisible text like this:
