Grungy, Slimey Text Effect

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.

Welcome to the tutorial, you’ll be learning how to make some grungy, slimey text in Photoshop.
Slimey Grungy Text

1.

First of all start by making a new document, my document was 400 x 200 pixels. Now add in a gradient in the background, the colors I used for my gradient were #545c25 and #90a625.

2.

Now write out your text with a nice, cartoonish kind of font. The font I used is called Vogue Cyr, if you don’t have that font just look through your fonts and find a good one that will suit the theme.
Text Written
Note: You can write your text out in any color you want, it will be overwritten with the layer styles ;)
Right-click the text layer in the layer’s palette, go into the Blending Options and apply the following styles and settings:

  1. Inner Shadow
  2. Outer Glow
  3. Inner Glow
  4. Bevel and Emboss
  5. Gradient Overlay (same colors as background)

Now I have a result like this:
