Candy-Cane Text Effect
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.
In this tutorial I will show you how to make some nice-looking candy-cane text mostly by using layer styles.

Step 1
First of all, of course, create a new document in which you can make your text. I used a document size of 400 x 200 pixels.
Now add in a background that will suit the text effect. I started by adding a blue gradient in the background. (#007eba and #00669a)

Step 2
Now add in some soft snow for the background. I made mine by first creating a new layer, then doing some soft white brushing on the bottom of the document.

Then on another new layer do a bit more soft brushing with black.

Lower the opacity for this brushing layer to 10-15%.

Step 3
Now we’ll finally get to making the actual text. Start by writing out your text with a curvy font, use white as your text color.

The font I used above is called Myriad Apple, you can use pretty much any font though.
Right-click the text layer in the layer’s palette, then apply the following layer styles and settings:
Your text should now look like this:

If your text didn’t turn out like mine, make sure you used the same settings as what my screenshots showed. You could also download the PSD file for help.
