Easy Vista Style Button and Menu

Start a new layer, move it above the other layers, and we want to draw an oval
shape over the bottom layer of the button like this:

Just try it a few times until you get a nice even shape.
Now grab your paint bucket tool and fill the shape with the color chosen earlier:

Next we want to add a filter to the layer. So if you go to your filter options on the main menu of photoshop choose gaussian blur:


After choosing gaussian blur put radius at 8.5 pixels. You should have something that looks like this:

So now clean up the excess you don’t need of the layer by using the rectangle marquee tool to cut off parts like this:

There will be some excess left on the bottom left and right corners so just grab an eraser and zoom in and erase the part over the edges:

After removing the excess here is my result:

Here is an example of what they would look like seperately without the blue glow:

You could see how this could be used as a rollover menu for a site.
One last thing to do is to set all your layers to 90% opacity so if they are on a background it would be slightly transparent:

I grabbed a quick image from the web for the previous screenshot just to show you how the buttons would look with a background. You could use this same concept on a site as long as you saved your images as .png files.
