Design a Custom RSS Cube

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.

Merge those layers together and you should have an RSS icon.

Now we need to position our icon on one side of the cube. I am going to put it on the right side. To do this I need to move it to that position and reshape it a bit so it looks like it fits on the cube.

To do this I am just going to use ctrl+t keyboard command on the shape. First I will use shift to make the RSS icon smaller then while holding down control, move the top and bottom corners to fit.

Here is what I mean..

Now add these blending options to the RSS icon:

Gradient Overlay

Bevel and Emboss

Result after that step:

I think this is looking pretty good so far what about you? Now I am going to add the web 2.0 feel to the RSS icon and the cube.

First I am going to make a web 2.0 feel on the RSS icon itself. In a new layer Using my pen tool I am going to make a shape that goes across the icon in the middle. Make it a selection, then fill it with white

While in the layer you just made ctrl+click in your rss layer and it should make an outline around your icon:

Now we want to cut out the part of the shape that is covering the RSS icon by hitting ctrl+x on your keyboard or going to edit>>cut to cut it out.

After you cut it out paste it back on your canvas and delete the previous layer.

You should have this now:

Move the part you just cut out so it fits on the RSS icon.

Now add a layer mask by going to layer>>add layer mask>>reveal all.

Pick your gradient tool with a reflected gradient and drag like this on on your layer:

Now that should look like this:

Now I am going to add one more web 2.0 feel to the block. So in a new layer draw an ellipse over the cube and fill it with white like this:

To cut the part out you need do the same thing we did with the other web 2.0 step except ctrl+click on the cube layer.

Position the piece you cut out to where it fits on the cube and use your mask and gradient tool again.

Here is my result

That is pretty much done. I am going to add some final touches like a drop shadow and some white glows using my soft brush tool for the cube.
